Hi Chanoch, compliments on Fast of Gedalia. I had to turn your fine The Raavad into a redirect, because a (much longer) page was extant on Abraham ibn Daud. Generally, wikipedia articles on rabbonim follow their non-abbreviated name (see Judah Low ben Bezalel, instead of Maharal). In case you want to write up something, always search first to see what's already here. There's a few other Jewishly active people here: User:IZAK, User:Fintor and User:Frikle and myself have been thinking about starting a Jewish WikiProject for Jewish articles. Please drop a line soon! JFW | T@lk 09:31, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi Chanoch, I echo Jfdwolff on his complements on your work on Fast of Gedalia. I actually started a few months ago a page at Fast of Gedaliah (with the 'h'), but I've scrapped it to redirect to yours which is much more complete and covers everything in my text. Welcome aboard. Hi Chanoch. Are you a student of Shmuel's at Yavneh? If so, send him regards from Danny Wool. I am an old time Wikipedia editor, and I have known Shmuel for about 35-40 years. Danny 04:03, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Vizhnitzer Rebbe Picture

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Vizhnitzer_Rebbe.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Woohookitty 08:24, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry was released into the public domain my careless error for not labeling it. --ChanochGruenman 08:41, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hassidic Clothing

[edit]

I've noticed that you make many improvements to articles on Hassidic Judaism. Something that I lack the knowledge of, but which you may have, is the different styles of dress for all the Hassidic groups. I've heard that different groups where different coats, different hands, etc. I think the articles on Hassidic Jewish groups would be improved if they had this informaiton. Also, more pictures of individual Hassidic Jews would be nice. There's one picture up now, but it's just a mass of black coated people. I personally think mass pictures like that are pretty bad, it's impossible to see the celebrants as individuals when they're all together like that. Dinopup 15:43, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I can probably get the photos up Wednesday morning --ChanochGruenman 23:24, 17 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Use (Hasidic dynasty) to standardize naming of groups

[edit]

Hi Chanoch, good work so far, but I have had to edit and Wikify a lot of your work. In order to maintain a standard naming format for all the Hasidic groups, add (Hasidic dynasty) to each name so that it will be clear what the subject is. For example: "Nadvorna" is now Nadvorna (Hasidic dynasty), "Belz" is Belz (Hasidic dynasty) etc. IZAK 08:36, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Use Your Knowledge

[edit]

Hi Chanoch,

You know, one of the main points of Wikipedia is to share your knowledge. For a while I have been telling you to edit the Chiastic structure article which I put up and you happen to have information to add to the article. Plus, it needs to be copyedited. Can you please get around to helping me with it?

Mishnah on Wikibooks

[edit]

Hi Chanoch.

I noticed that you had signed up as a participant for the Mishnah Project on Wikibooks.

I don't know when you were there last, but I wanted you to know that recently I have given the whole project a major facelift. Besides the English version, links between languages (English and Hebrew) now also use a whole new system, a very cool setup which is being enabled by the Hebrew version's move to Wikibooks. English and Hebrew mishnayot and tractates are linked in the sidebar.

Would love to get get comments and suggestions. And if you want to contribute, say, a Mishnah a week - that would be fantaastic! I myself plan to get started on Pirkei Avot.Dovi 07:17, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

Why was the entire political activities section removed? There seems to have been alot of relevant material there. --PinchasC 09:36, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Dear PinchasC, I am terribly sorry it was taken out by mistake please reinsert it into the article. sorry. --ChanochGruenman 01:39, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Jfdwolff has a very useful table for inserting the Hebrew letters into wikitext. I noticed in several of your contributions (like Lag Ba'omer) you did not put the Hebrew letters next to the English transliteration you gave, which might have been helpful. I hope this helps! :-) E=MC^2 T@lk

Jayjg has suggested that you'd be able to improve this new (substub) article; could you take a look at it please? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:13, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Oh Nos! They've started without you! I guess they really want to hear about the Skver! SF2K1

 Dear Mel Etitis,

I will fix it when I have the time to. With God's help I can do it this Saturday night. I have been meaning to write a Skver article and I will now expand this one shortly. thank you for pointing it out. --ChanochGruenman 01:32, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Template: Hasid-stub on "TfD" (Templates for Deletion)

[edit]

Hi Chanoch: I have placed your new {{Hasid-stub}} (Template:Hasid-stub) on Wikipedia:Templates for deletion#Template:Hasid-stub [1]. My feeling is that at this time it is PREMATURE to split the stubs relating to Judaism and to Jewish history. We need to hold off on this "Hasid" template for now. Best wishes. Category:Hebrew Bible verses

[edit]

Hello Chanoch: See the verses in Category:Hebrew Bible verses with the two samples so far: Genesis 1:1, and Genesis 1:2. Is this the way the Torah verses should be "presented"? (Compare with the verses in Category:New Testament verses.) At what point should the classical teachings of famous meforshim be inserted, and in what way and how much? The time to decide on this is now, because at this stage the "project" is still being "formed" by User:Neutrality alone. Thank you. IZAK 03:07, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Reb_Meir_Shapiro.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Reb_Meir_Shapiro.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Rachmatsrivka Rebbe (Boro Park).jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Shmuel Burstein

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Shmuel Burstein, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Shmuel Burstein. File permission problem with File:Toldos Aharon.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Toldos Aharon.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 05:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
